A Practical Handbook for the Boyfriend will be for straight men what He's Just Not That Into You was for straight women--an all-around go-to guide that walks men through relationships from Step A to Step Z and covers everything you can imagine in between. It also doesn't hurt that it's hilarious, well written, and has a conversational style that makes you feel like you're taking advice from a friend rather than another self-help book that claims it will help you find true love.

This book has tons of useful advice for men, but there are also many tidbits spliced throughout for women in the form of "Girl on Girl" callouts. For example, men go into a vegetative state when they're watching television; if you want to get his attention, turn off the tv, take off your clothes, or both. Also, men don't like the phone as much as us, so you have to learn to accept that once the essential details are out (where you're meeting and when) he's probably done with the conversation.

For men and women both, A Practical Handbook for the Boyfriend will be a useful go-to guide on dating, mating, and extricating. From the first date to breaking up to the last relationship you'll have (ie, marriage), Huffman and Worth have got it covered with wit and style.~K.H.

The fact that I even read this book is a little hard to revewal, let alone that I liked it and that I'm willing to write a review on it! I read that GOD IS A WOMAN: DATING DISASTERS, though, and people who read that and liked it (as did I) suggested this book plus it showed up on my Amazon "suggestions" so I checked it out. I was very surprised at how much I liked it. I do well with meeting women, typically, but they tend to lose interest quickly. GOD taught me how to deal with that. This book taught me how to work with women once I'm dating one. I have a tough time relating to them one on one once we've been dating and this book offered some very much needed insight. A must read for guys who really want to connect with their girlfriends and who struggle with that.~All Things Manly

A Practical Handbook for the Boyfriend: For Every Guy Who Wants to Be One/For Every Girl Who Wants to Build One has so much great information and it is right on target. Any guy who wants to really understand women better could benefit from this book. As a woman I understand men a bit better as well. The format is easy, quick reading and witty. I bought the book because I thought it would be laugh out loud funny but it isn't. Having been married over 10 years, I have learned these lessons already (some the hard way) but for new couples I would definately recommend this book.~CindyLou

Guys: Reading A Practical Handbook for the Boyfriend: For Every Guy Who Wants to Be One/For Every Girl Who Wants to Build One by yourself is one thing, but reading this book *with your girlfriend* may actually prove beneficial. As I read it to my significant other, we were able to talk and laugh about which things were true for her and which were not. Whether I rolled my eyes or wholeheartedly agreed, we had fun discussing the differences between the sexes, and what we each felt was important in a relationship (and Huffman finds humor in just about every aspect).

Definitely worthwhile for couples with an honest, playful relationship.~R.E.

If you want a clue about your girlfriend, guys, read A Practical Handbook for the Boyfriend: For Every Guy Who Wants to Be One/For Every Girl Who Wants to Build One. Too many books for guys are about meeting women, this one is about what to do when you've met one. It tells you why we do things that we do and how to work with it, even if you don't want to. You NEED to, guys. It does a nice job of comprimising between working with your girlfriend and keeping your manliness. It also has some advice for we women. I also recommend "God is a Woman: Dating Disasters," which I read after seeing a review about it on this page. It lived up to its hype.~Susie

I bought this book as a valentines day joke gift for my boyfriend. I got in a few days before V-day and read through it cause I had a free night. Let me tell you it was absolutely hysterical and SO true. It is brutally honest, hilarious and actually helpful. I still wasn't sure what my boyfriend would think or if he would ever actually read it. When I gave it to him we read the first two chapters together and he was cracking up. It sits on my coffee table and everytime he is over he is skimming through it. And we read it together which is nice cause it's something to do, we get to laugh together and it is actually slightly helpful.~Ryanne

I marked nine passages in the book and gave it to my husband for Valentine's Day and changes are beginning to happen...For the first time in 20 years he actually gave me a compliment when I returned home after getting my hair cut! Absolutely hilarious...direct, to-the-point, so true, loved every page and could relate to so much. Wonderful chapter graphics of old pulp fiction, and the 'Be prepared' advise boxes. Picked up a few self-help tips for myself. Great gift idea for male and female friends! And, I made sure to read most of it to my BF. ~Pamela

Sorry if I seem surprised but I'm not used to finding good self-help books. Most make poor attempts to be witty with bizarre advice like "never return a guy's call" or "always hold the door for her". In the last couple weeks I've read two really good self-help books, this being one of them. Truthfully, if I could give this book 3 ½ stars, I would. But I can't so I rounded up (I'm the "nice girl".) I liked a lot of what was in this book but not everything. It's good because it's straight forward, has some wit, and some genuinely good ideas for guys on being boyfriends. What it lacks is that it tells guys how to be boyfriends as we women see them, not necessarily what's best for them. I don't like the tricks like "how to pretend to be listening". It also tells guys that we all think alike. Don't listen to that guys; that could get you into a lot of trouble! Women do not all think alike. Overall this is a witty read with more than a handful of good tips for guys and girls (although I wouldn't advise turning the TV off during the big game, ladies!) ~Nice Girl

Both amusing and informative, A Practical Handbook for the Boyfriend: For Every Guy Who Wants to Be One/For Every Girl Who Wants to Build One says it all -- just as it is; no holes barred! As a female, I would occasionally cringe at the truth about us gals (Yikes! I really am like that!) -- just seeing it there in black and white. A male friend of mine is also reading the book, and he, too, finds himself picking it up now and then to try to make sense of his female counterparts, finding himself laughing and cringing at the same time, as well, not wanting to believe that, yes, he is really like that, too!
